The interim Canada Dental Benefit is intended to help lower dental costs for eligible families earning less than $90,000 per year. Parents and guardians may be eligible if they pay for dental care for a child under 12 years old who does not have access to a private dental insurance plan. Canada Dental Benefit - Canada.ca
The importance of regular dental care and dental advice for children, just as their parents and guardians need, is recognized by health care professionals across Canada and the world. And having oral health at a young age can set the stage for a healthy mouth for life. Preventive Dental Hygiene Care approaches children's dental care with an anxiety reducing approach where we are partners in health. We provide parents and guardians with a customized advice and a treatment plan to meet the oral health needs of their child. Even better is that the Canadian government is giving your child a new benefit called the Canada Dental Benefit (CDB). Now, your child's visits may be covered.
In December 2022, the government of Canada announced that eligible families that do not have dental insurance can receive up to $650 per child to cover their dental expenses. The amount varies based on their household income. Eligible Dental Hygiene services include exams, dental cleanings, preventive varnishes to stop and treat risky areas for decay or small cavities, and oral hygiene instruction.
You can learn more and apply for this benefit through the CRA's website.
It is important to note that the eligible services and the amount of the benefit are both subject to change
HOUSEHOLD INCOME | MAXIMUM ANNUAL BENEFIT PER CHILD |
---|---|
Under $70,000 | $650 |
$70,000 to $79,999 | $390 |
$80,000 to $89,000 | $260 |
Preventive Dental Hygiene Care plans to accept CDCP coverage and will be applying as a provider as soon as possible. Coverage for services will begin in May 2024. Canada recognizes the significance of oral health as a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and yet dental care remains unaffordable for many Canadians. Freedom from pain should not be a luxury.
Cost Barrier - Approximately one-third of people in Canada lack dental insurance. In 2022, one in four Canadians reported avoiding dental visits due to cost concerns. The absence of coverage can lead to untreated oral health issues, and clogging our emergency rooms.
Health Implications - Poor oral health isn’t just about teeth; bacteria from the mouth can travel in the bloodstream and impact the entire body. Neglected oral health may contribute to:
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help ease financial barriers to accessing oral health care for eligible Canadian residents who have an annual adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 and don't have access to dental insurance.
