Dental Hygiene Care | Cleaning and Scaling

Enjoy a comfortable stress-free environment, and take the preventive approach to your dental care. For all ages, all mouths, all comfort levels, at Preventive Dental Hygiene Care the focus is on using the most beneficial products and interventions available to meet your needs. Together we can assess, plan, and change your dental future.

Assessment – Understanding your risks for dental problems starts with understanding your health history and dental history, your past dental experiences,  the products you like to use for your teeth, as well as any barriers that prevent you from having good dental care. Your exam starts with an oral cancer screening, an exam of the teeth and bite, the cheeks and tongue, and the supporting gum and bone levels around the teeth.

Planning – the details of our assessment are shared with you and together we decide on a plan. What are your priorities? What home product would be most effective for your problem? What is an easy way to change up your routine that would result in big changes?

Treatment - Most interventions start with removing the deposits around the teeth. This is done by ‘scaling’ – a process of shaving away deposits with instruments and polishers. There are MANY other interventions that can be provided at this time as well. Varnishing sensitive spots, treating deep pockets and sore gums with a topical soothing gel to promote healing, smoothing chips or fillings overhanging between teeth, are just an example. We can also plan long term solutions – periodontal interventions for severe problems, cavity reducing products for home use, whitening, and sports guards.

Benefits of Dental Cleanings

  1. Prevention of Cavities: Regular dental cleanings help remove plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that can lead to tooth decay. By preventing cavities, you can enjoy a healthier, pain-free smile.
  2. Gum Disease Prevention: Removing tartar and plaque is crucial for preventing inflammation and gum disease. Cleanings contribute to healthy gums, reducing the risk of gingivitis(bleeding gums) and periodontitis(loss of bone support around the tooth).
  3. Overall Health: Oral health is connected to overall health. Poor oral hygiene leads to inflammation and bleeding gums. Bacteria in the mouth enter the bloodstream and reach all the parts of the body. Poor oral health has been linked to various systemic conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory issues. Taking care of your teeth and gums contributes to your overall well-being.
  4. Fresh Breath: Cleanings remove bacteria that contribute to bad breath, leaving your mouth feeling fresh and revitalized.
  5. Early Detection of Issues: Regular appointments also allow for detection of potential issues early on, leading to timely intervention and prevention of more serious problems. The goal of Preventive Dental Hygiene Care!
